Yahoo!'s first new look in Taiwan

 

About Yahoo Taiwan Finance

 

Money site (https://tw.money.yahoo.com/) was a financial news site for beginners and youths who want to start their investment.  It included everything but stocks. The news and reports were two main contents to get users involved in the investment. And the index fund gave the advance users useful information to build their watch list. Beginners wanted to know the top mutual funds to make a decision according to the ranking. Two visual styles gave the product a different sense. The blue one is clean, smart and young for targeting the fresh graduates. Gold color means wealth, stable and lively in Taiwan.

 
 

My Role

 

I was responsible for the interaction and the layout for the site. I reorganized the content and modularized it and gave it the best place to express itself. I also needed to make motion designs to show the transactions between pages. After completing the task, I also worked on visual design to verify my ideas with visual designers. I tried two approaches and saw how the color would affect users’ attention and interaction.

My job mainly focused on home, mutual fund, and summary pages. And I needed to create some tools, especially for the Taiwan market, such as the currency converter, mutual fund manager’s profiles, and bank’s saving calculator.

Idea B

Added mutual fund ranking below the trending news by showing with a tab module. Therefore users could switch to foreign exchange funds and ETF funds. On the railway, I removed the top ads and introduced two modules: 1. top3 mutual fund manager's profiles, 2. the last one is the bank's saving calculator.

Idea A

Based on the market index, the second trending card contained the related news and trending news. Then the different types of categories. On the railway, First was ads then the six different modules, following by the order: My watch list, currency converter, an index for foreign currency, mutual fund, ETFs... then is saving rate from different banks, lottery, receipt lottery.

Mutual Fund Summary Page

 

The summary page was a detail page that didn't exist. So I explored different navigations and tried different info structures. Therefore, users could navigate between this page and others. I also did the visualization since a lot of data could be visualized by charts. I defined charts for the main content, such as mutual funds, ETF, and index funds.
